Buchholz' irony, whether intentional or accidental, brings humor to a subject most pastors have already experienced and, if not, will. The church's task (service/ministry) orientation at times takes back seat to relational imbroglios. From the vantage of 30+ years of ministry, my thought is that serious conflict usually results from failure to clearly define task goals and cultural norms within a congregation. [more...]

I have heard and read about the differences in 'labeled' generations for a number of years. Included are Seniors, Builders, Boomers ... to name a few. However, it wasn't until I attended a seminar led by Reggie McNeal that those differences became real clear. That helped me clarify that much of the conflict we experience is because of these differences. [more...]

As a lay person and newly elected member of our staff pastor parish relations committee, the Conference Table on Church Confrontation, Conflict and Crisis was very informative. Too often we tend to dismiss the possibility of conflict within the church or a group. In some cases,we choose to just ignore it. The Conference Table provided some sound, biblical-based approaches to dealing with the inevitable conflict; and, better yet, stressed the importance of implementing strategies that will help overcome those conditions or dysfuntions which may give rise to conflict, confrontation and crisis.
