LAKELAND — The images of bombs exploding, violence erupting in the streets and words of hatred flowing freely is nothing new to the staff of the East Belfast Mission. They live it every day.
Some of those staff members visited the Florida Conference last month to tell their stories and share the work they do in the midst of the war still taking place in their country and the deprivation of the area they serve. full story>

BRADENTON — In the world of churches, guest preachers are a nice change of pace, but when a bishop from another country graces the pulpit and casts a vision members of the congregation eagerly embrace, that's extraordinary.
That's what happened at Harvest United Methodist Church Oct. 23 when Bishop José Quipungo delivered the sermon during worship services at the Bradenton church. full story>

An e-Review Commentary By the Rev. James R. Lewis
Sentiments about "Peace on Earth" abound this time of year, as well as prayers of thanksgiving, and Christmas wishes. That infamous song about the missing "two front teeth" could easily be rewritten "All I want for Christmas is my Daddy home ... " (or insert "hubby," "sonny," "wifey," etc.).
In light of these wishes for Peace on Earth and prayers of thanks, let me share again my oft-repeated mission: "The Good News that is often Forgot." full story>

While officials with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (formerly Immigration and Naturalization Services) have tightened the reigns on immigration after the atrocities of Sept. 11, 2001, the trickle-down effect is impacting those most vulnerable — children.
The Rev. Montreuil F. Milord, pastor of South Dade Haitian Mission in Miami, aches for the children who remain behind after their parents are deported to Haiti. He thinks of two in particular. full story>

TAMPA — For a group of conference and community leaders gathered at a round table on immigration, 6-year-old Sophonie and her 4-year-old brother, Kinsley, made the recent problems Haitian immigrants in Florida have been facing personal.
"I don't want any gifts this Christmas. Can you bring back my mommy and daddy, please?" she pleaded as she addressed the group. full story>
