Serving as a military chaplain abroad can be just as challenging and isolating as a soldier’s deployment. A European conference earlier this year helped a Florida Conference chaplain and others strengthen themselves spiritually and regain a sense of connection with each other and their Wesleyan roots.

Regardless of whether or not the United States is in an actual recession or a mental one, as an advisor to Republican presidential candidate John McCain claimed in a recent interview, people in Florida are struggling — with a housing crisis, health care issues and lower incomes. Several United Methodist congregations in South Florida recently partnered with other churches to find solutions to such pressing needs.
