With that goal in mind the theme of the 2007 Florida Annual Conference Event, “From Generation to Generation,” reflects the church’s focus to be in ministry to and with all people. full story>

LAKELAND — When looking out over the attendees gathered at pretty much any annual conference across the country it’s not unusual to see mostly older members.
But at the 2007 Florida Annual Conference Event, youth and young adults will have a heightened presence, thanks to a mandate from last year’s gathering that said their involvement is a priority. full story>

LAKELAND — The 2007 Florida Annual Conference Event will in some ways hearken back to a time when pastors came to the annual gathering to do more than just sit and listen — when they came to share and celebrate the good things happening in their congregations.
The Rev. Dr. Jeff Stiggins, executive director of the Florida Conference’s Office of Congregational Transformation (OCT), is excited this year’s event will provide that opportunity. He said several churches and the ways they’ve made significant headway in meeting the goals established by the Bishop’s Fundamentals will be featured. full story>

LAKELAND — The U.S Congregational Life Survey, 2001, says for every United Methodist under age 25 “there are six senior citizens,” with nearly “twice as many senior citizens occupying United Methodist church pews” as adults ages 25 to 44.
Leaders of the Florida Conference are using the 2007 Florida Annual Conference Event as an opportunity to begin changing those figures and attract the vanishing youth-young adult demographic. So far, they’ve made progress toward achieving that goal. full story>

LAKELAND — The task of transforming The United Methodist Church does not rest solely in the hands of clergy. It should be a shared goal between both clergy and laity.

LAKELAND — Of the 66 people elected earlier this month to represent the Florida Conference at the 2008 General and Southeastern Jurisdictional conferences, either as delegates or reserves, about half served as delegates to the denominational and regional conferences in 2004.
The 2008 delegation is also about as equally diverse as the 2004 delegation in terms of the ethnicities represented, with a similar, nearly even split between men and women.
There is one notable difference, however. More delegates to the upcoming conferences are younger than 30. full story>
